In this post, here we have outlined two complementary modeling approaches implemented in AM PravaH® :
1. Rosenthal-based analytical approach - Rosenthal’s approach provides an analytical, moving heat-source model to estimate temperature fields, thermal gradients, and cooling rates in additive manufacturing. Its simplicity enables quick prediction of melt pool characteristics and microstructure trends, with certain assumptions.
2. CFD-informed microstructure evolution- Temperature field data from melt pool dynamics simulations are used to predict microstructure by evaluating local thermal gradients and cooling rates, while retaining the solidified melt pool shape through explicit consideration of melt pool geometry.

The slides include:
1. Introduction and motivation
2. Detailed discussion of Rosenthal’s model
3. CFD-informed microstructure framework
4. A comprehensive summary highlighting the capabilities, limitations, and applicability of both approaches.
Together, these pathways demonstrate the trade-off between modeling efficiency and predictive fidelity, physics informed microstructure-aware AM process design with AM PravaH®.
